Early Detection:

Early detection of diabetes is crucial for effective management and prevention of complications. Our screening services aim to identify individuals at risk of developing diabetes or those who may already have the condition but are undiagnosed.

Screening Tests:

  • Blood Glucose Testing: Quick and simple tests to measure blood sugar levels, helping to identify prediabetes and diabetes.
  • HbA1c Testing: Measures average blood sugar levels over the past three months, providing a more comprehensive picture of an individual’s glucose control.
  • Risk Assessments: Questionnaires and assessments to evaluate risk factors such as family history, body mass index (BMI), and lifestyle habits.

Prevention Programs

Educational Workshops:
Our prevention programs include educational workshops that focus on lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Topics covered include:

  • Healthy Eating: Nutritional guidance on adopting a balanced diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
  • Physical Activity: The importance of regular exercise and practical tips for incorporating physical activity into daily routines.
  • Weight Management: Strategies for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise.

Personalised Counselling:

We offer personalized counselling sessions with dietitians, diabetes educators, and fitness experts to help individuals develop customized prevention plans. These sessions provide one-on-one support and guidance tailored to each person’s unique needs and risk factors.

Support Groups:
Joining a support group can be an effective way to stay motivated and accountable. Our support groups provide a community where individuals can share their experiences, challenges, and successes in making lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes.

Follow-Up and Monitoring:
Regular follow-up appointments and monitoring are essential components of our prevention programs. We provide ongoing support to help individuals stay on track with their health goals, monitor their progress, and make necessary adjustments to their plans.

Why Screening and Prevention Matter

Reducing Risk:

Diabetes has become a global illness which has placed a huge burden on the individual persons and the healthcare system. World Health Organisation (WH0) is focusing on eradicating Diabetes globally by the year 2030. Research has shown that 60% of people with diabetes globally are undiagnosed, with younger adults being more likely to go undetected. Type 2 Diabetes can be harder to detect in its early stages because it develops more slowly. However, untreated diabetes can affect many organs, including the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels. By identifying at-risk individuals early and providing the necessary education and resources, we can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing diabetes and its complications.

Improving Health Outcomes:
Early intervention and preventive measures can lead to better health outcomes which can improve blood sugar control, reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, and enhanced overall well-being.

Empowering Communities:

Through our screening and prevention programs, we empower individuals and communities to take control of their health. By spreading awareness and providing practical tools for prevention, we help build healthier communities.

At The Light Diabetes Organisation, we are dedicated to preventing diabetes and supporting those at risk. Together, we can work towards a healthier future with fewer cases of diabetes and better management for those affected by the condition.
